On successful completion of this timber pest and termite training course you will know how to inspect for, report on and manage termites and other timber pests with confidence.

You will also receive a statement of attainment for units CPPUPM3008 Inspect for and report on timber pests, and CPPUPM3010 Control timber pest. This will be issued by the RTO, Rentokil Initial Pty Ltd (RTO no. 40919). The statement of attainment can be submitted to your state or territory licensing office or insurer as proof of your training in timber pests.

What is covered?

What topics are covered?

This timber pest course covers two units from the Certificate III in Urban Pest Management (CPP30119): Inspect for and report on timber pests (CPPUPM3008), and Control timber pests (CPPUPM3010). Topics include:

  • Risk assessments and access for timber pest jobs.
  • Planning for and carrying out a timber pest inspection.
  • Identification of termites and other timber pests.
  • How to write a timber pest report.
  • Designing and implementing a timber pest management plan.
  • Restoring a site.

The course also explores the AEPMA Code of Practice relevant to termite and timber pest work.

How it works

The timber pest and termite course is made up of five types of learning:

  1. Theory modules – build your timber pest knowledge. Modules are assessed by multiple choice questions.
  2. Live monthly tutorials – expand on trickier topics. This is a great opportunity to ask the trainer any questions.
  3. Practice experiences – build your practical skills.
  4. Work order video assessments – demonstrate your newly acquired knowledge and skills on real or simulated timber pest inspection and management jobs. Videos are submitted for assessment.
  5. Site assessments – demonstrate your knowledge and skills to your workplace trainer, who will be assessing your performance. Checklists completed by your workplace trainer are submitted for review.

Who is this course for?

This timber pest and termite training course is suited to a licensed pest technician who is interested in expanding into timber pest work that includes termite management, pre-purchase timber pest inspections and termite inspections.

Course prerequisites

To be eligible to do this course you must:

  • Be over 18.
  • Pass a free Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test.
  • Provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number.
  • Provide photographic proof of your identity.
  • Have completed units CPPUPM3005 Manage pests by applying pesticides, CPPUPM3006 Maintain equipment and CPPUPM3018 Pesticide storage area in pest management vehicle, from the CPP30119 Certificate III in Urban Pest Management (or equivalent).
  • Have a suitable person who can be your workplace supervisor

Fee Info

Course fee

The course fee for the Timber Pest: Inspection and Management course is $2000. This fee is made up of the following elements:

  1. Enrolment fee – $325 (non-refundable).
  2. Section 1 unit fee (CPPUPM3008) – $975.
  3. Section 2 unit fee (CPPPUM3010) – $700.

Payment prior to enrolment

We require an initial payment of $1300 to start the enrolment process. This can be paid by direct bank transfer, debit/credit card or PayPal. We cannot accept more than this before the formal commencement of the course. The outstanding course fee of $700 is due following formal commencement of the course.

Who will you learn with?


Trainer: Keith Farrow

35+ years of experience

Having worked in the pest industry since the 1980s, Keith is highly experienced in pest control. He worked as a trainer in the NSW and Queensland TAFE systems for many years and is also a qualified science teacher.


RTO: Rentokil Initial

The Registered Training Organisation (RTO) for this course is Rentokil Initial Pty Ltd (RTO no. 40919). Rentokil Initial issues statements of attainment for this course and oversees quality.


Course delivery: Work Ready Training
